Hurricanes 4, Devils 2: Jiri Tlusty scored a power-play goal to snap a tie 7:25 into the third period as visiting Carolina ended New Jersey’s winning streak with its second victory in as many nights.

Tlusty added an empty-net goal for six points in his last two games. Jussi Jokinen and Patrick Dwyer also scored for the Hurricanes, who defeated the Devils in New Jersey for the first time in seven contests. Cam Ward made 26 saves after earning the win against the New York Islanders on Monday.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Ryan Carter replied for the Devils, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Martin Brodeur stopped 21 shots.

After drawing a penalty, Kovalchuk opened the scoring on the power play with four minutes remaining in the first period by firing a point shot through traffic that eluded Ward. Jokinen tied the game with the man advantage 1:36 into the second, one-timing a cross-ice pass from defenseman Joe Corvo into an open net.

Dwyer tipped blue-liner Jay Harrison’s point shot late in the period to give the Hurricanes the lead, but Carter answered early in the third by stealing the puck from Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk in the slot and backhanding a shot between Ward’s pads. The 2-2 score held until defenseman Mark Fayne was called for interference and Tlusty converted a feed from captain Eric Staal behind the net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Officials did not see the puck go in on Kovalchuk’s goal and play continued for three minutes and 12 seconds before an icing call allowed for video review.
