Kings 5, Blackhawks 4 (OT): Defenseman Alec Martinez scored 5:47 into overtime as visiting Los Angeles ousted defending champion Chicago to advance to the Stanley Cup final for the second time in three years.
Justin Williams chipped the puck into the offensive zone before skating behind the net and tapping it to the left point. Martinez's wrist shot caromed off Blackhawks blue-liner Nick Leddy and past Corey Crawford (27 saves) as the Kings became the first team to win three consecutive Game 7s - all on the road - to advance to the Stanley Cup final.
Marian Gaborik netted his league-leading 12th goal of the playoffs with 7:17 remaining in the third period to forge a 4-4 tie. Williams and rookie Tyler Toffoli each finished with a goal and an assist while Jeff Carter also tallied for Los Angeles, which will host Game 1 against the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Both teams claimed a victory over the other in the regular season.
Patrick Sharp scored twice, Brandon Saad collected a goal and an assist and captain Jonathan Toews netted a power-play tally for the Blackhawks.
Sharp's wrist shot from the right faceoff circle late in the first period snapped a 2-2 tie and his blast from the point beat Jonathan Quick (37 saves) with 1:35 remaining in the second to break a 3-3 deadlock. The slim advantage held up until Gaborik cleaned up a rebound on the doorstep following captain Dustin Brown's shot from above the right circle.
