Flames 4, Sharks 1: Lance Bouma and David Jones each recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Calgary pulled even with San Jose for second place in the Pacific Division.
Mason Raymond and Jiri Hudler also scored for the Flames, who won the season series 4-1-0. Jonas Hiller turned aside 33 shots - including all 14 he faced in the third period - while making his seventh consecutive start.
All-Star defenseman Brent Burns scored for the Sharks, who went 1-3-1 versus Calgary this campaign. Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski notched assists and Antti Niemi finished with 23 saves.
The Flames opened the scoring with 5:08 remaining in the first period as Raymond carried the puck down the left wing and cut to the top of the slot before beating Niemi to the glove side with a wrist shot. Bouma doubled the lead at 8:10 of the second, backhanding a rebound into a wide-open net from the doorstep after Niemi stopped captain Mark Giordano's shot from the left point.
San Jose halved the deficit right before the end of the session as Burns' one-timer from the right point found the top right corner of the net with one second left. Niemi made several big saves early in the third to keep it a one-goal game before Hudler buried a shot from the high slot during a power play at 5:20 to give Calgary some breathing room, and Jones sealed it with an empty-netter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hudler has scored five of his 16 goals this season against San Jose. ... Sharks C Tommy Wingels returned to the lineup after missing seven games with a broken left hand while Flames LW Curtis Glencross came back from a nine-game absence due to a lower-body injury. ... San Jose welcomed back an old friend earlier in the day, acquiring G Evgeni Nabokov from Tampa Bay for future considerations. However, the 39-year-old Russian - who won the Calder Trophy and set the franchise records for wins (293) and shutouts (50) while spending the first 10 seasons of his career with the Sharks - is scheduled to make an announcement regarding his future in the NHL on Wednesday.
