Tanner Kero scored early in the third period and the visiting Dallas Stars defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C., for their first two-game winning streak in more than two months.
Andrew Cogliano and Jamie Benn also scored for Dallas. Mark Pysyk had his first assist of the season.
Dougie Hamilton and Haydn Fleury had the goals for Carolina. It was Fleury's first point of the season, coming in the defenseman's 32nd game.
Stars goalie Jake Oettinger made 41 saves.
Alex Nedeljkovic of Carolina stopped 22 shots.
Oettinger, in his second game against the Hurricanes this season, helped Dallas build off Thursday night's win at Nashville. The Stars hadn't won consecutive games since capturing the first four games of the season.
It was a tough beginning to open a season-long eight-game homestand for the Hurricanes.
Earlier in the day, Dallas goalie Anton Khudobin was placed in the league's COVID protocol, so he was unavailable. He had been labeled by coach Rick Bowness as the likely starter.
Kero's second goal of the season came when he wasn't covered well in front of the net, posting the tally with 17:08 remaining in the game.
Cogliano notched his fourth goal of the season. Benn has scored in back-to-back games for the first time since early February.
Benn's goal came on a power-play goal with 29 seconds to play in the second period. He posted up in front of the net and gathered a rebound to deliver the tying goal.
Hamilton registered his 100th career goal just two games after a 14-game points streak ended.
Aside from Khudobin, the Stars had other lineup shifts. Left winger Roope Hintz and defenseman Joel Hanley were out with lower-body injuries.
Carolina had been 4-0-0 against Dallas this season. The teams meet in a rematch Sunday night.
