Jake Bean scored his second goal of the night 1:12 into overtime and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 on Wednesday night in Denver.
Cole Sillinger had two goals and an assist, Boone Jenner also scored and Jakub Voracek, Patrik Laine and Oliver Bjorkstrand had two assists each for the Blue Jackets.
Joonas Korpisalo stopped 28 shots for Columbus.
Bowen Byram had two goals and an assist for the Avalanche, who scored two late goals to force overtime. J.T. Compher and Logan O'Connor had a goal apiece and Gabriel Landeskog and Nazem Kadri each logged three assists. Colorado's Jonas Johansson made 32 saves.
Columbus won it when Bean got the puck in the slot and beat Johansson with a snap shot, his third goal of the season.
The Blue Jackets trailed 2-1 after two periods but rallied early in the third. Sillinger tied it just 1:13 in when he tipped a centering pass from Voracek past Johansson. He gave Columbus a 3-2 lead when he beat Johansson inside the right post at 4:26, his third of the season.
The Blue Jackets made it a two-goal game when Jenner scored his sixth of the season at 8:56.
Johansson came off for an extra skater with 3:33 left, and seven seconds later, Compher tipped Bowen's shot to make it 4-3. It was his fifth tally of the campaign.
Johansson went off again with 1:43 left, and Colorado got the equalizer when Byram's slapshot from the point beat Korpisalo with 52 seconds to go. It was his third of the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Avalanche got on the board just 32 seconds into the middle period. Landeskog sent a pass to Kadri, who spun and hit O'Connor coming down the slot. O'Connor's slapshot beat Korpisalo over his right shoulder.
It was O'Connor's first goal of the season.
Colorado made it 2-0 when Kadri feathered a pass to Byram coming down the left slot, and he one-timed it by Korpisalo at 12:24.
The Blue Jackets got one back late in the second wen Bean's shot went off defenseman Erik Johnson's skate and through Johansson's pads at 16:55.
