Auston Matthews scored his 50th goal of the season, William Nylander scored two power-play goals and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting Winnipeg Jets 7-3 Thursday night.
Matthews scored into an empty net at 17:54 of the third period on a pass from Mitchell Marner to become the fourth Maple Leaf to score 50 goals in a season in franchise history.
It was last accomplished for Toronto by Dave Andreychuk, who had 53 in 1993-94.
Ilya Mikheyev scored a short-handed goal and added two assists for the Maple Leafs, who have won three in a row.
Mike Giordano, John Tavares and Timothy Liljegren also scored for Toronto. Marner added three assists.
Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg. Blake Wheeler and Paul Stastny also scored for the Jets, who had a three-game winning streak end. Mark Scheifele added two assists.
Erik Kallgren made 20 saves for Toronto.
Eric Comrie stopped 31 shots for Winnipeg.
Wheeler scored his 12th goal of the season at 3:19 of the first period after skating around Giordano.
Stastny scored his 18th goal of the season on a wraparound at 7:45 of the first.
Giordano scored his seventh goal of the season -- his first with Toronto -- at 15:03 of the first. The shot from the left circle went wide but was deflected into the goal by defenseman Brenden Dillon.
Nylander's power-play goal tied the game at 1:58. Matthews's shot hit the end boards and bounced in front and Nylander chipped it in. Mason Appleton was off for tripping.
Ehlers scored his 21st goal on a power play at 3:45 with Justin Holl serving a delay-of-game penalty.
Tavares knocked in a rebound for his 23rd goal to tie it 23 seconds later.
Nylander scored his 26th goal at 8:40 with Pierre-Luc Dubois off for tripping.
Mikheyev scored his 15th goal while killing a penalty at 13:55.
Liljegren scored his second at 18:13 of the third period.
Kyle Connor and Nate Schmidt did not play for Winnipeg because of COVID-19 protocol.
Ilya Lyubushkin (neck), Petr Mrazek (groin) and Jack Campbell (rib) were out for Toronto.
