Sidney Crosby scored twice and goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped all 22 shots he faced on Monday as the Pittsburgh Penguins snapped the visiting Seattle Kraken's franchise-record nine-game winning streak with their 3-0 victory.
The shutout was Jarry's fifth of the season, 18th of his career and first against Seattle.
Drew O'Connor also scored and Rickard Rakell had two assists for the Penguins, who had lost two straight games in overtime and were 9-3-3 in their previous 15 games. They picked up their first home win in the history of the all-time series with Seattle (1-1-1).
The Kraken also had their 13-game point streak (11-0-2) halted.
Seattle goaltender Joey Daccord, who had wins in eight starts in a row, made 30 saves.
The Kraken played without defenseman and points leader Vince Dunn, who was a surprise scratch because of an unspecified injury, as well as forwards Matty Beniers (undisclosed) and Andre Burakovsky (lower body), who both left the team's previous game.
After a scoreless first period in which the Penguins seemed to have the better chances and outshot Seattle 12-6, Pittsburgh moved ahead in the second.
O'Connor gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead 49 seconds into the middle period. Bryan Rust, from the far side of the left dot, patiently waited for O'Connor to get to a good spot, then let loose with a backhand pass. As he got to the right hashmarks, O'Connor one-timed the puck over Daccord's glove.
Crosby, 2:43 later, upped it to 2-0 with his 25th goal of the season. He got set up in the right circle and one-timed a feed from Kris Letang past Daccord's blocker.
Crosby added an empty-netter with 2:21 left in the game.
The game was played five hours earlier than originally scheduled so it would not conflict with the Pittsburgh Steelers' AFC wild-card game that was rescheduled from Sunday to Monday due to a blizzard in Orchard Park, N.Y., where the game was being played.
