Jake Guentzel registered his fifth career hat trick and Colton Sceviour scored twice Sunday to help the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins win their third straight game, 5-2 over the New Jersey Devils in Newark, N.J.

Bryan Rust and Mike Matheson each had two assists for the Penguins. Tristan Jarry stopped 28 of 30 New Jersey shots.

Miles Wood and P.K. Subban scored for New Jersey, which has lost three of four. Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves.

Sceviour was playing hours after he cleared waivers as the Penguins were looking for roster and salary-cap flexibility with the NHL trade deadline set for Monday.

He gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead at 2:35 of the first. After Teddy Blueger -- in his return after missing 13 games because of an unspecified injury -- had a shot blocked, Sceviour came from behind the net and batted the puck past Blackwood's right skate.

Sceviour got his second at 5:26 of the first. He deflected a shot from the center point by Matheson.

Wood, who had two goals Friday in a loss to Pittsburgh, closed it to 2-1 at 17:14 of the first. Sami Vatanen -- who was put on waivers earlier in the day but allowed to play under league rules -- launched a shot from the lower part of the right circle. Wood tipped the puck in.

The Devils grabbed momentum in the second, including a 14-6 advantage in shots, but the Penguins got the only goal.

Guentzel, from Rust and Brian Dumoulin, scored his first goal of the game to make it 3-1 with 39.3 seconds left. New Jersey unsuccessfully challenged that Pittsburgh had interfered with Blackwood.

That lost challenge gave the Penguins a power play, and they cashed in. Guentzel scored his team-leading 19th goal on a backdoor play set up by Rust at 1:19 of the third for a 4-1 lead.

Subban cut it to 4-2 at 7:30 of the third. It was first ruled no goal by officials, who said Jarry was pushed into the net. After a review initiated in Toronto, it was ruled a goal.

Guentzel added an empty-netter with 1:23 left to register the hat trick.
