Captain Alex Ovechkin collected two goals and one assist to lift the Washington Capitals to a 6-3 victory over the host Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.

Ovechkin has 730 career goals, one shy of tying Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne for fifth place all-time in NHL history.

Evgeny Kuznetsov added one goal and two assists and Conor Sheary, Anthony Mantha and defenseman Dmitry Orlov also scored for the Capitals, who have won five straight over the Flyers.

Defenseman John Carlson set up four goals for his first career four-assist performance.

Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov made 22 saves in the win.

Defenseman Ivan Provorov, James van Riemsdyk and Wade Allison each scored one goal and captain Claude Giroux notched two assists for the Flyers.

Philadelphia goaltender Carter Hart was a late scratch with a lower-body injury. Alex Lyon received the start and made 35 saves.

The Capitals jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ovechkin blasted a slap shot on the power play past Lyon at 3:38 of the first period. The puck appeared to ricochet off the skate of Philadelphia defenseman Philippe Myers. Ovechkin has scored in all six games against the Flyers this season.

Provorov's goal from the point with one second left in the first forged a tie at 1. It was Provorov's 50th career goal.

Washington went ahead 2-1 just 33 seconds into the second after Orlov scored.

Philadelphia tied the game at 2 after van Riemsdyk broke free on a line change and scored at 5:28. The goal snapped a 17-game goalless streak for van Riemsdyk.

Seconds after Nicolas Aube-Kubel was called for a penalty, Ovechkin responded with another power-play goal to give Washington a 3-2 Washington at 6:15.

The Capitals' aggressive play in the offensive zone continued as Kuznetsov scored at 15:02 of the second for a 4-2 advantage.

Allison recorded his first career goal on the power play at 7:02 of the third, but Sheary responded quickly by redirecting a shot past Lyon for a 5-3 advantage at 9:15.

Mantha's empty-net goal at 18:48 sealed the win for the Capitals.
