Goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped all 45 shots he faced and Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and an assist Thursday as the Calgary Flames topped the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 to sweep a five-game road trip.

It was Markstrom's 10th career shutout, his second of the season and his first in seven career appearances against Pittsburgh.

Blake Coleman, Dillon Dube and Milan Lucic also scored, and Oliver Kylington had two assists for Calgary.

The Penguins took their second consecutive regulation loss after they had none through their first five games. They continue to play with a lineup depleted of five top players because of injuries and COVID-19 protocol.

Pittsburgh backup goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 31 of 35 shots.

Calgary took a 1-0 lead at 7:22 of the first period.

With the Flames defending in their end, Matthew Tkachuk, from the left-wing wall, sent the puck toward the right point. Gaudreau got his stick on the puck, chipped it over the stick of Penguins defenseman John Marino, retrieved it and took off. His lofted shot from the left circle beat DeSmith far side for his first goal but team-leading ninth point.

Pittsburgh had extended power play time late in the first, including 1:41 of a five-on-three, but Markstrom made seven shots during the short-handed stretch, including a point-black stop on Jake Guentzel.

Markstrom preserved the Flames' one-goal lead in the second when he was sprawled above the crease and used the reach afforded by his 6-foot-6 frame to reach back and make a stick save on the Penguins' Drew O'Connor in tight.

Coleman gave Calgary a 2-0 lead 1:04 into the third period. Mikael Backlund won a faceoff to DeSmith's right, and Kylington set up Coleman at the center point. His shot got through traffic and inside the left post. Backlund collected his 400th career point with the assist.

Dube upped it to 3-0 at 10:15 of the third. Off a three-on-two, he beat DeSmith short side from the right circle, with Gaudreau picking up an assist for his 10th point.

Lucic struck 1:29 later with a shot that went under DeSmith's pads.
