Frederik Andersen made 33 saves for his first shutout of the season, helping the Carolina Hurricanes get off to the best start in franchise history thanks to a 3-0 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday in Raleigh, N.C.

The Hurricanes are 6-0-0, extending their winning streak one game longer than the club mark that was previously set at the beginning of the 2019-20 season.

Andersen is the seventh goalie in NHL history to win his team's first six games in a season, and he is the second to do so in his first season with a new team.

Tony DeAngelo, Nino Niederreiter and Andrei Svechnikov scored goals for Carolina, which is midway through a four-game homestand. Svechnikov's tally went into an empty net.

Boston lost for the second night in a row to an undefeated team after falling 4-1 at Florida at the start of a two-game road swing.

Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman stopped 21 shots.

Andersen, who has been the only goalie used by the Hurricanes this season, was busiest in the second period, when he made 13 saves.

Later, Carolina killed three third-period power plays. That included a 61-second stretch with a two-man advantage for the Bruins.

A hard-hitting first period included a combined 42 hits recorded between the teams.

Boston's Jake Debrusk was thwarted on a first-period attempt as he made it past DeAngelo but couldn't finish against Andersen.

At 15:15 of the opening period, DeAngelo recorded his first goal with Carolina.

It was 2-0 with 6:25 left in the second period when Niederreiter was credited with a goal just 18 seconds into Carolina's second power play of the game. His entry pass toward the crease turned into a goal when the puck went off Boston defenseman Derek Forbort before sailing into the net.

Andersen picked up the secondary assist on Niederreiter's goal for his first point as a Hurricane. He has 10 points in his career.

Svechnikov sealed the win when he scored with 25 seconds left.
