Josh Norris scored on a rebound with 5:54 remaining as the Ottawa Senators broke a six-game losing streak by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Thursday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Alex Formenton scored two goals, and Ottawa goalie Anton Forsberg was stellar against his former team, making 47 saves for the win.

Formenton scored in the first and third periods. Senators winger Tyler Ennis was credited with two assists.

Norris scored just 19 seconds after the Hurricanes tallied twice in less than two minutes to tie the score.

It wasn't until Carolina's 42nd shot of the game that the Hurricanes scored. Teuvo Teravainen converted on a power play with 7:58 left in the third period to cut Ottawa's lead to 2-1. Then with 6:13 remaining, Andrei Svechnikov tied the game.

Carolina goalie Antti Raanta, who took a regulation loss for the first time in five decisions this season, stopped 17 shots.

The Hurricanes have lost a season-high three consecutive games, and they are 1-4-1 in their past six.

Ottawa had allowed at least four goals in each contest during its six-game skid.

The Senators are tied for the league low with five victories this season, while Carolina ranks among the NHL's top five with 15 wins.

Svechnikov's ninth goal of the season was just his second since October.

Formenton tallied his first goal just 2:43 into the game. However, most of the first period was controlled by Carolina, which finished the opening 20 minutes with a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Formenton's second goal, and fourth of the season, was initially ruled no good because of goalie interference. Ottawa challenged that ruling, which was overturned. The puck had gone into the net off the skate of Carolina center Martin Necas.

The Hurricanes have not scored in the first or second period over their past three games.
