The Carolina Hurricanes scored two goals on power plays, shaking a recent slump in that category, and beat the host Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on Tuesday night to open a five-game road trip.

Jaccob Slavin, Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas and Vincent Trocheck scored for Carolina, which has won back-to-back games following a six-game stretch with just one victory.

Nino Niederreiter had two assists. Aho and Slavin also each had an assist.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored in the second period for Winnipeg, which didn't generate much offense after racking up a total of 13 goals in its last two games.

Goalie Frederik Andersen, who hadn't played in the past two games, made 16 saves for the Hurricanes.

Connor Hellebuyck stopped 30 shots for the Jets, who had won three of their previous four games.

Slavin, a defenseman, scored 30 seconds into the game with an unassisted tally for his first goal of the season.

The Hurricanes scored twice on power plays in a short span bridging the second and third periods, going ahead on Necas' goal with 20 seconds left in the second period. They stretched the lead to 4-2 when Trocheck converted on a power play just 3:04 into the third period.

Carolina had only three power-play goals in its last 11 games combined.

The Hurricanes racked up 15 shots in the first period. It wasn't until about 13 minutes remained in the game that Winnipeg recorded its 15th shot on goal.

Each team managed just five shots on goal in the third period.

The Jets finished 1-for-5 on power plays.

Carolina rookie Seth Jarvis played in an NHL game in his hometown for the first time. He assisted on Necas' goal.
