Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano teamed up for one of the most unique goals in NHL history and the visiting Anaheim Ducks held on for a 2-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Zegras was behind the Buffalo goal when he lifted the puck with the blade of his stick and then flipped it over the back of the net. Milano was positioned in front of the crease and he slapped the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead at 5:14 of the second period.

Officials checked the replay to see if Milano played the puck with a high stick, but the goal stood, giving Zegras eight assists in the past four games.

Anthony Stolarz made 25 saves for his second shutout in his past three starts for Anaheim.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 21 saves in his season debut for the Sabres, who have lost five in a row and nine of their past 10.

Sam Carrick tipped in a shot from Josh Manson with 2:08 left to make it 2-0.

The Ducks were coming off a 4-3 shootout loss at the Washington Capitals on Monday night.

They were held without a goal in the first period for the sixth straight game, though they've combined for 20 goals in that span.

Stolarz, who has made seven starts overall this season, came within eight seconds of another shutout in a 3-1 win against the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Nov. 5.

The Sabres have been outscored 22-10 in their past four games.

Luukkonen was recalled from Rochester of the American Hockey League because of injuries and illness to three other Buffalo goalies.

Craig Anderson, who started the season opener in goal for the Sabres, is out with an upper-body injury. Dustin Tokarski is in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol, and Malcolm Subban sustained a lower-body injury in a 6-2 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, two days after he was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks.
